Position Summary

The Senior Operations Director/Value Stream Leader is responsible for leading a critical Value Stream (Ex. Biologics, Aseptic Filling, Fill/Finish, and/or Vaccines) with operational revenue and EBITDA responsibility as well and sub P&L responsibility for the site. This role will report directly to the VP / GM Bloomington. Catalent is targeting candidates whom are looking to build and grow the business in Bloomington and then be positioned for General Manager roles at the Catalent Bloomington site or across the global Catalent Network.

Sr. Operations Directors/Value Stream Leaders are accountable for all processes, personnel, safety, compliance and exceeding the client requirements within their operational area, inclusive of sub P&L responsibility and commercial operations. Responsibilities include ensuring safety and GMP quality compliance, ensuring staff are trained, motivated, and evaluated, collaborating and communicating with support functions, scheduling employees and managing work load for operational area, reviewing and approving GMP documentation, and supporting and leading area continuous improvement projects. Value Streams will vary in size between 300 to 400 employees with rapid projected growth and will be cross-functional in nature – Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, HR, EHS and Engineering.

Location: This role must be located on-site in Bloomington, IN

The Role:

Provides leadership and direction through managers and is accountable for the performance and results of the Value Stream. Executes functional business plans and contributes to the development of the Catalent Biologics business unit strategy. Decisions are guided by functional strategy and priorities. Ensures accountability and drives results –safety, quality, delivery and cost.

Communicate effectively within business unit and between groups – priorities, changes, projects, needs, etc. Supporting the business development and project management lifecycles for client projects/activities. Collaborate with support functions to resource production requirements balancing project needs. Assessment and achievement of financial fitness for the business unit. Continuously innovate and improve – leading or supporting Operational Excellence improvements that create/ maintain a best-in-class standard. Directly support regulatory inspections, client audits and visitors for area of responsibility.

The Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree (science, engineering, or technical study are preferred); Master’s degree preferred

  • 12+ years of related experience and leadership / management in a high volume, high mix pharmaceutical or food grade manufacturing business; it is highly preferred with a focus on manufacturing, packaging and inspection in biologics desired

  • Experience within Biologics, Aseptic Filling, Fill/Finish, and/or Vaccines is strongly preferred

  • Possess expert knowledge of regulations related to cGMPs ideally within a CMO/CDMO environment or related pharmaceutical / biotechnology environment

  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast paced, highly complex business

  • Must have the ability to think strategically as well as be hands on to support team (e.g. shop floor level interaction)

  • Extensive experience with Continuous Improvement / LEAN methodologies; formal LEAN Six Sigma (6s) training a plus

  • Possess extensive knowledge of MRP/ERP systems; JDE preferred

  • Must possess the ability to bridge relationships with a variety of individuals internal and external to the site and organization.

  • Experience managing a P&L a plus
