Responsible for leading, developing, and growing the existing Surgical Services including Southlake Operating Rooms, Northlake Operating Rooms, Surgery Center, SPD, PACU, Endoscopy, and Joint Venture Endoscopy Center. Also, will own the development and continued improvement of operating performance for surgical services with an eye toward elevating already strong performance by instilling a culture of best practice performance and accountability. Immediate priorities for the Director, Surgical, and Perioperative Services include focus on the development of strategic growth agendas for each service line to capitalize upon opportunities for growth. Equally important will be analysis of current performance to elevate profitability, quality out comes, and patient and physician satisfaction.


  • Works with the nursing staff, clinicians, physicians and general staff to identify and to improve major issues and operations effectiveness such as patient access as well as clinical throughout and their related processes and procedures via fostering cooperation and open communications with a continued focus on quality and improving the coordination and continuum of care.

  • Strives to create a culture of high reliability in clinical practices, to reduce variances that will improve both financial and operations efficiencies.

  • Works with the Methodist Physician Group to build trust, develop care pathways, and formalize rounding while implementing operational improvements to deliver efficient, high quality care.

  • Works with assigned reports to ensure the development and implementation of a sound departmental financial stewardship: Development and implementation of capital budget requests, operational plans, staffing levels talent delivery and strategic goals.

  • Responsible for measuring and driving positive outcomes for Patient Engagement.

  • Identifies, analyzes and implements cooperating policies and program standards, and ensures full documentation and compliance within all regulatory requirements, so that all assigned – departments comply with or exceed all regulatory requirements.

  • Strive to improve the overall management skills, improving the level of consistency and the application of policies throughout the system. Is a champion of nursing leadership development, career pathing and succession planning.

  • Ensures implementation of management systems and processes that reinforces the Methodist Hospitals’ integration of both Magnet and Studer Evidence Base Leadership framework creating a unique and desired culture.

  • Works collaboratively with the other Departments, playing a key role in the refinement of the operating structure, including both the procedures and staffing necessary to build a high performance team geared to meeting the established metrics.

  • Brings clarity to the goals and performance metrics by providing ongoing feedback, playing a key role in building the culture of accountability.

  • Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned.


  • A thorough understanding of the management of surgical services with a focus on process improvement.

  • Experience in a growth-oriented healthcare environment, with a focus on physician relationship building, service growth planning, and project management, which ideally includes new technological innovation, and inpatient and ambulatory focus.

  • Prior experience working closely with physicians, mentoring clinical leaders and managing the surgical operations.

  • Knowledge of finance, cost control, productivity enhancement and systems management with demonstrated success driving to quantitative goals.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and analyzing sound budgets and upholding financial stewardship with high levels of operational success.

  • Sensitivity to the complexities of providing care within and to a culturally diverse population.

  • A track record of achieving effective collaboration across organizational lines.

All post high school education must have been obtained from a recognized College or University. Other majors or courses of study will be considered as meeting these requirements, as long as they are closely related to the essential functions of the position.

Experience Requirements:

Ten (10) years relevant work experience in Surgical Services and a successful track record of progressive line management in a health care delivery organization of similar size and complexity, with a preference for experience within a multi-site centered integrated health system a clinical field or in a related area is required.

  • Previous Charge Nurse experience and /or 2 years relevant leadership experience.

  • Prior P&L management.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with a patient concern technology system.
