Vice President of Operations Position Available (Direct Hire) - Gary, IN

Kelly Services is currently seeking a Vice President of Operations for one of their top metals clients in the Gary, IN area.

Position Purpose

Full P&L responsibility for all operations in the multiple job sites. Directs and is responsible for presenting and securing all potential business opportunities within the same area.

Major Responsibilities

  • Ensures strict compliance with all safety policies and directives. Promotes continuous safety practices in the workplace.

  • Recruits, develops and manages site managers to ensure individual job sites are focused on achieving or exceeding the annual Plan as well as improving year-to-year bottom line performance.

  • Maintains a significant level of customer contact. Ensures that all site personnel continuously promote the Company’s Customer Service Program.

  • Responsible for the analysis of existing and prospective operations to:

  • Review trends within a given job site and across job sites to facilitate a proactive outlook.

  • Estimate capital and operating costs for all business opportunities.

  • Trains site personnel in the use of analytical information to improve planning abilities.

  • Directs and ensures that each site maintains a sound operating program (personnel skills and training, equipment use and maintenance, etc.) to maximize customer service and equipment life.

  • Manages within the capital allotment by prioritizing expenditures.

  • Maintains familiarity with customers’ product lines and financial health.

  • Supports site profitability by directing slag sales efforts to maximize profit. Must balance investment and operating cost consideration with revenue prospects for slag sales. Ensures the proper training of slag sales personnel.

  • Is cognizant of and able to articulate environmental issues as related to metal recovery. Ideally, familiar with environmental issues as related to our customers.

  • With appropriate staff support, ensures and monitors both product quality and service quality at each site.

  • Site Superintendents/Site General Managers

  • Slag Sales Personnel

  • Supervises indirectly:

  • Account Manager

  • Assistant Superintendent, Foremen, hourly personnel

Education

Degree in : Mining, Engineering, Environmental, and Business

Degree preferred but not necessary.

Experience

  • Broad experience in metal recovery or heavy industry (quarry, mining, steel mill operations) with P & L responsibility, and demonstrated ability to enhance the bottom line.

  • Ideally, background includes heavy equipment and plant background, and proven maintenance management experience.
