FIELD APPLICATIONS SCIENTIST Manager - qPCR East US
Fundamental Purpose of Position:
The Field Applications Scientist (FAS) Manager leads a team of highly skilled and experienced Field Applications Scientists to deliver world class support and training for Thermo Fisher Scientific's Applied Biosystems brand real-time PCR instruments and applications portfolio. Manage activities of the qPCR FAS team in the eastern half of the US to achieve customer satisfaction, training revenue targets and Op Ex budgets. Maintain a high level of employee satisfaction and develop team members to their fullest potential. Actively work to drive growth and stimulate new business. Maintain an accurate and responsible forecast of assigned book-of-business. Be a leader, champion and advocate for your team on the NA Service and Support extended leadership team.
Key Objectives of the role:
Be a leader to the team, inspire coach and motivate your team to achieve excellence in your business and customers satisfaction scores.
Spend 10-20% of the time 'in the field' with FAS, visiting customers to develop and maintain good relationships, monitor customer satisfaction and market the services and value provided.
Partner with Sales and Service District Managers to create a cross functional team to exceed our customers' requirements and drive improvement.
Oversee the management of regional key accounts, local accounts and escalations as part of the Service and Support leadership team.
Monitor and resolve customer difficulties including customer complaints.
Actively seek and develop process improvements which increase our ability to provide service and support and improve customer satisfaction.
Assist the FAS team to plan and organize activities to ensure efficient and effective customer support is provided, prioritize resources based on skill, need and customer sentiment.
Report on actual performance relative to AOT, provide variance analyses and revised forecast projections and drive training revenue growth.
Responsible for meeting budget on Op Ex and Absorption targets.
Understanding of complex financial systems and processes. Knows how to manage a business as a standalone P&L, balancing expense, revenue and growth.
Partner with internal Education Services team to drive strategies for growth and expansion of training offerings for qPCR product lines.
Preparing, submitting and monitoring district budgets and resource requirements.
Work closely with business partners to manage the following processes:
Recruiting of new FAS, as required
Establishing Annual Priorities & Goals for your team and the business
Set strategy for future growth and direction of qPCR team.
Evaluate employee performance and provide performance feedback on a regular basis. Take actions as appropriate. Complete annual performance reviews.
Develop, share and implement the long-term vision and strategy of the Services and Support Team.
Work with R&D teams to continually improve the capabilities and workflows associated with sequencing product line to support use of the platform in general and in strategic application areas.

Minimum Qualifications (must have):
Master's degree or greater in life science required; Strong technical/scientific aptitude
3-5 years of previous laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques
Leadership/management experience and a distinct leadership philosophy
Marketplace/Scientific knowledge - knows Customers' environment in Research, Clinical and Diagnostics settings across a wide range of scientific workflows (preferred)
Change champion with the ability to adapt and thrive through changes; Greets challenge and change as opportunity
Team player who can effectively integrate internal and field-based activities across functions to support customer requirements
Ability and willingness to travel at least 40%
Successful candidate must live in the Eastern half of the US
