Community Mental Health Center, Inc. Medical Billing Specialist in Lawrenceburg, Indiana

General Responsibilities: The Billing Specialist will execute the Center's billing and collection procedures and patient account functions.


  • High school diploma required.

  • Accounts Receivable background with billing and collecting for medical services using the standard UB 04 (837F) and CMS1500 (837P) claim forms.

  • Experience in patient accounting or related third party billing/collection with in-depth knowledge of specific third party payer requirements.

  • Requires an understanding of medical terminology and medical coding practices (CPT4; HCPCS; ICD-10). AAPC or AHIMA coding credentials preferred.

  • Requires knowledge and proper application or remote electronic inquiry systems for Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial payers.

Day-to-Day Expectations:

  • Review patient charts and documents for accuracy

  • Ensure all codes are current and active

  • Follows coding guidelines and legal requirements to ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations

  • Submits claims for CMHC's primary healthcare clinics.

  • Process denials for CMHC's primary healthcare clinics by investigating why denials were issued and correcting claims.

  • Supports accounts receivable department by performing AR analysis for all business lines
