The Salvation Army - Metro Division Thrift Store Manager in Madison, Indiana

Overview

Manage daily operations of retail store engaged in selling of general line of merchandise. Formulate pricing policies to ensure profitability of store operations. Coordinate sales promotion activities and supervises preparation of merchandise displays and advertising. Performs and/or supervises employees engaged in taking and controlling inventories, reconciling cash with sales receipts, keeping operating records, preparing daily records of transactions. Plans and prepares work schedules and assign employees to specific duties. Duties may include management functions, such as purchasing, budgeting, accounting, and personnel work. Responsible for knowing and seeing that all policies and procedures of The Salvation Army are followed in the Thrift Store.

Responsibilities

• General oversight of Thrift Store operations• Open and close Thrift Store• Operate cash register and be responsible for the integrity of its reconciliation• Prepare and/or make daily bank deposits• Transport bank deposits to nearest banking location• Ensure excellent customer service standards are established and maintained• Greet customers and assist them with merchandise as needed• Ensure housekeeping, merchandising, and organizational standards are established and maintained• Address all facility/maintenance issues as they arise• Complete employee evaluations with input from Corps Officers• Ensure Thrift Store is staffed properly, and tasks are assigned daily to maximize productivity of all employees and volunteers• Facilitate on-going training and development of Thrift Store employees• Ensure supply orders are placed in a timely manner to facilitate sales needs• Collect, process, and market merchandise in a timely manner while maximizing the return• Oversee all Salvation Army Thrift Store representative interaction with the public in collaboration with the Advisory Board and Corps Officer.• Oversee telephone calls, donations, customer sales, and handling complaints.• Oversee loading/unloading merchandise to/from trucks and donor/customers vehicles• Oversee the sorting, hanging, stocking, pricing, and marketing of merchandise• Maintain a safe and healthy environment for all parties involved• Attend and participate in staff meetings

Qualifications

Education:The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diploma and/or GED. A minimum of two-year experience in retail management is preferred.

Background Checks:The position requires a background check to be completed. Findings may disqualify an individual for this position.

Experience:It is desired that this person will have experience in small business operations and that they will have the personality, skills and the ability to manage staff.

Certifications:Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard.

Skills/Abilities:• Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite in a Microsoft Windows environment.• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.• Ability to write simple correspondence and reports.• Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations.• Must be able to read and follow maps.• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.• Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.• Ability to understand and carry out written, oral or diagram instructions.• Ability to apply problem solving skills.• Ability to work harmoniously within a Christian organization and exhibit faith-based mentality at all times.• Ability to have a positive attitude, be flexible, cooperate, work well with others and understand they are representing a Christian organization.

Supervisory Responsibility:This position provides general accountability and direct supervision to all Thrift Store employees.
