Job Description:

General Summary:

This position is responsible for all phases of Shipping ..i.e. movement of goods, loading and unloading, inventory issues; including the timely recording of all required documentation and all process related activities in these areas at GAF.


Follows all Shipping and Logistics process instructions and procedures to properly move and organize material within the department and to load all required trucks. Reports and documents any and all safety issues to the Lead, Group Leader and/or Supervisor. Works directly with Logistics Lead and Group Leader. Responsible for the proper storage of finished goods materials. Executes inventory rotation to accomplish plant F.I.F.O. Uses the proper safety equipment and demonstrates proper safety procedures. Strives to set the example and encourages other employees to adhere to all work rules… ie..proper safety procedures, break times, lunch times.. Actively participates in department problem solving…ie department issues including items such as employee issues, equipment, processes and procedures, inventory issues. Responsible for the upkeep of his/her equipment by using forklift check sheets and for operating all equipment in a safe, efficient manner, detect and report faulty operation and follows all safety procedures. Maintains all required housekeeping standards.

In addition to the above, the Material Handler will be expected to:

  • Check for damaged goods

  • Stay aware of possible hazards and avoid them

  • Perform thorough pre-trip inspections and report any issues to management

  • Perform accurate counts and write legibly

  • Record accurate data for material movement

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; to raise and lower objects without mechanical aids; to extend hands and arms in any direction to reach, push or pull objects; to bend at the knees and at the waist; and to talk or hear.

The employee must have the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. with assistance, frequently lift and/or move 25 lbs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Ability to wear and use required safety equipment, including safety glasses, steel-toe safety shoes, hearing protection and head protection.

Education Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience Required:

  • Six months or more of forklift experience within the last two years

  • OR is a current GAF employee
